"The DoomsDay VAULT" - The Life After Death

Sorry, we are not talking about Ghost, Spirits or Rebirth. We are talking about Practical Science which would surely give a Life After Death.

A Backup for the future - "The DoomsDay VAULT" -  A Seed Storage for the many generations to come.  Even if there is a severe natural calamity, war, asteroid attacks, or any other man-made crisis; "Seed Bank" is there to protect us to give new life for the future

Awww, this is quite interesting. Seeds of all crops are stored for years as a perseverance towards the future. Unbelievably, there are 8,40,000 samples restored in the Doomsday Vault.

From the outside, the vault looks like a concrete wedge pounded into a mountain. But as you walk through the door, you cross from a hostile wasteland into a safe house for humanity.

Fact:

Way up north, in the permafrost, 1300 kilometers beyond the Arctic Circle, is the world's largest secure seed storage, opened by the Norwegian Government in February 2008. From all across the globe, crates of seeds are sent here for safe and secure long-term storage in cold and dry rock vaults.

The vault hold the seeds of many tens of thousands of varieties of essential food crops such as beans, wheat and rice. In total, the vault now holds seeds of more than 4000 plant species. These seed samples are duplicates of seed sample stores in national, regional and international gene banks.

Permafrost and thick rock ensure that the seed samples will remain frozen even without power. The Vault is the ultimate insurance policy for the world’s food supply, offering options for future generations to overcome the challenges of climate change and population growth. It will secure, for centuries, millions of seeds representing every important crop variety available in the world today. It is the final back up.

History

The doomsday vault was built into the side of a frozen mountain on the Svalbard archipelago in 2008, and it's been specially designed to keep crucial crop seeds safe and ready to replant following pretty much any disaster you can think of.

Even without power, the vault would be able to remain locked and frozen for 200 years. But now the Syrian civil war will trigger the first withdrawal of seeds from the facility.

Is the Vault Safe?

The Vault is an ideal location for long-term seed storage, for several reasons:

1. The permafrost offers natural freezing and prevents decaying.

2. The Vault is well above the sea level, protected from flooding.

3. This area is globally stable and humidity levels are low.

4. Svalbard is a remote location and is neverthless easily accessible.

Why is Doomsday Vault in News?

The civil war in Syria has prompted the withdrawal, with researchers in the Middle East requesting seeds to replace those previously stored in a gene bank in the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo. And it happened the very yesterday.

Countries and its take:

Each country or institution will still own and control access to the seeds they have deposited. The Black Box System entails that the depositor is the only one that can withdraw the seeds and open the boxes.

Has India got a take on this?

At this juncture, we have a concern whether India has got a take on this. If yes, well and good or if not, its hightime to treat this as an  eye-opener  to preserve something for the real future rather than fighting with pity politics, religious conflicts and conspiracies.
