Can anyone recognise this image in this picture..??? If you can, you really know and respect that person who played a crucial role in Indian History. Yes ....It is the stone mosaic that stands at the exact location where Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated.
Today is 21 May 2011-the tenth death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi .May I sincerely ask that how many you know the exact date or place of assassination of that great personality.I am not into any political organisation and I scribble this out in totally non-bias node putting forth a demarcation of Applause to that National Hero. I feel the need for all your attention to a man who is equally important with other Historians.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in Sriperumbudur on 21 May 1991. He was campaigning for the Congress Party on the second day of voting in the world's largest democratic election when a powerful bomb, hidden in a basket of flowers, exploded killing him instantly.
The most irony of this incident is that it marked the End of a dynasty.
Rajiv Gandhi's death has shocked the world and marks the end of the Nehru dynasty that had led India to independence from Britain. After his brother Sanjay was killed in an air crash in 1980, he gave up his job as an airline pilot and was elected to Sanjay's parliamentary seat.He became prime minister after his mother, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated by her own Sikh bodyguards in 1984.
The incident took place like this :
Rajiv Gandhi had arrived at Chennai about two hours earlier and then was driven by motorcade in a white Ambassador car to Sriperumbudur, stopping along the way at a few other election campaigning venues. During the drive to Sriperumbudur, he was accompanied by a foreign journalist who interviewed him in the car. When he reached the venue at Sriperumbudur, he got out of his car and began to walk inside towards the dais where he would deliver his speech. Along the way, he was garlanded by many well wishers, Congress party workers and school children. At 10:21 p.m., the assassin Dhanu approached him and greeted the former Prime Minister. She then bent down to touch his feet and detonated an RDX explosive laden belt tucked below her dress. The former Prime Minister along with many others were killed in the explosion that followed. The assassination was caught on film through the lens of a local photographer, whose camera and film was found at the site. The cameraman himself also died in the blast.
We can still see a " Path of Light " which traces Rajiv Gandhi's final steps at the exact spot.Seven pillars, each featuring a human value surrounds the site of the blast, at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial in Sriperumbudur. Out of all these traces itself we can assume his character to be Eye-candy. Synonymous with his appearance, he marked his glory in the path of Politics too. Though I was a history student, I have never ever heard about these cites before. This was quite astonishing and I regret on the fact that there are yet more to learn in this world.
The world has arrived at such a situation where the need for such a legendary person are heart-felt......
Let us all bow down our head for a minute and pay our heartily tribute to that national hero.......
Jai Hind.........
